  1. Paul S, Bullfighter says:

If you’re in the US you can check into the trains and buy tickets through Raileurope.com (also the source for Eurail passes). I’ve bought a number of tickets through them, and it’s quite easy and reliable. Be sure to read up on how to validate your ticket - you have to punch it in the little machine by the platform before you get on the train, but once you do punch it, it expires shortly thereafter. Only punch the ticket you’re about to use.

I’ve taken the train from Nice to Milan, and it was a great way to travel. I’m probably going to take a train between Marsaille and somewhere in Spain this winter, and I can’t wait - it’s wonderful.

As someone else said, it’s a lot easier to pop over to a train station and ride over than it is to deal with airports, though the airfare is probably somewhat cheaper.
